Denmark: Aalborg

Aalborg is the third largest city in Denmark, but I probably would have skipped it if it wasn’t for the music festival. And what a surprisingly beautiful city it was! Dating back to 700s, Aalborg has been a major trading town throughout the history, it’s packed with medieval old buildings, grand squares, castle-like stone houses similar to towns of the Handeatic League. There is also a futuristic Utzon House (nickname Aalborg’s Sidney Opera House), 17th century whitewashed Budolfi Cathedral, beautiful Rococo-ornate Town Hall, Aalborg Tower, and restaurant and cafe laden Jomfu Ane Gaden street.
