Dominica: Morne Trois Pitons National Park

Morne Trois Pitons National Park is a UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its incredible mountainous volcanic landscapes, cascading waterfalls, various freshwater lakes and calderas, hot springs, and amazing variety of flora and wildlife. The park’s centerpiece is Morne Trois Pitons, a volcanic mountain with three distinct peaks, from which the park derives its name. The park’s dense rainforests harbor many rare plant species, including towering gommier trees, delicate orchids, and colorful bromeliads. Wildlife in the park includes the endemic Dominica parrot, known locally as the “sisserou” (featured on the country’s flag), tree frogs, lizards and geckos, agoutis, and a large variety of bird species, including colorful sunbirds and hummingbirds.
