Ethiopia: Harar – Feeding Black Kites
An absolute must-do experience in the old city of Harar is feeding the black kites. There is a small square in the heart of the city, surrounded by meat shops exclusively dealing in camel meat. There are hundreds of black kites sitting on the rooftops all around and waiting for meat scraps. And you can even feed them yourself – you are given chunks of meat, extend your arm, and the birds swoop in a mili-second, grabbing the meat. Do it over and over – its absolutely exhilarating!
