Germany: Boppard
Another picturesque German town located along the Rhine Gorge – Boppard – is at the bend of the river and is starting point for many river cruises. Stunning views of the town from the high ridges as well as views of the river from the embankment. The town is full of narrow cobblestone streets and churches and old wooden buildings. It’s also a center of wine making in the region and as such it required a mandatory glass or two of crispy Riesling. There are also ancient roman ruins here, the northernmost in Europe. The town lies in not just one but two UNESCO World Heritage area – one for the Rhine River gorge and the other for the northern frontier of the Roman Empire.
