Gough Island: Tristan Albatrosses
Another super rare bird to be seen around Gouph island is the Tristan Albatross (Diomeda dabbenena). A majestic great albatross with a wing span of up to 3m (9.8 ft). The bird is endemic to the Tristan Archipelago and nests only on Gough, Trista, Inaccesible, and Nightingale island, and nowhere else on Earth! Gough island has the highest bird numbers in its colony. We could see both adults and various subadults flying around the island – they all have significant coloration differences: as the birds mature they become more white. The Tristan albatross is considered critically endangered.
