Greece/Corfu: Corfu – Old Town

Corfu Old Town is a jigsaw puzzle of narrow cobblestone streets, churches (there are 31 of them), Venetian-era buildings, and dead end valleys and tiny passageways. On every corner are souvenir shops, cafes and Greek tavernas. And some more souvenirs and trinket shops (this must be insanely crowded in high season). A town existed in this strategic location since the 8th century, but it truly grew and developed during the Venetian times from the 1500s and before being passed to British and then Greek. The architecture and atmosphere of the beautiful old town definitely has Mediterranean feel to it. The town is totally pedestrian and an absolute pleasure to just aimlessly roam around.
