India: Ahmedabad – Hathi Singh Jain Temple

Another spectacular temple in Ahmedabad is the Jain Temple, also mid 19th century (o guess religions were competing who can built a more impressive temple – Jain vs Hindu). The central temple building features super elaborate carvings of various deities (238 to be exact) on the pillars supporting the equally ultra-carved domes. A rectangle of high walls surrounds the temple, also featuring a lot of carved out elements, as does the main entrance gate. The main temple “houses” 11 gods and idols, while additional 52 “sit” in the shrines along the walls. Outside the temple, there is also a Manastambha – a 78ft high column of honor. (The last picture is not mine but shows the areal view of the temple).
