India: Jodhpur – Palaces inside the Mehrangarh Fort

If you thought the hilltop monster of a fort – Mehrangarh Fort – was totally fairytale-like, wait till you get inside! First, there is the architecture of overhanging wooden windows and balconies so intricately carved out with decorations that you think it’s borderline impossible. You can get to most of these balconies for panoramic views. Then, there are the royal museums and armory with more gold and silver then in some country’s treasuries. More – the art collections here are extensive and well-preserved and presented, featuring many masterpieces of the medieval Marwar-Jodhpur style. Finally, there are rooms with stained glass windows, spiral staircases, lavish bedroom, thrones, palanquins, and more and more wood carvings, and last by not least – a mirror room aka Sheesh Mahal. Get off your ass and come see this, because it’s incredible!
