Jordan: Madaba Mosaic Map

Madaba Mosaic Map is located in the Byzantine Church of St George (now Greek Orthodox) in the town of Masada in central Jordan. It contains the world’s oldest surviving cartographic depiction of the Middle East in the form of a sprawling mosaics with labels and names on the church’s floor. It dates to the 6th century AD and interestingly, some of the sites marked on the map where only discovered in 1960s after excavations.
