Kaliningrad: Curonian Spit

Curonian Spit is a nearly 100km strip of sand dunes and pine forest that separates the Baltic Sea from the Curonian Lagoon. It’s a UNESCO World Heritage site for its natural beauty. Half of it lies in Lithuania and half in Kaliningrad enclave of Russia. Both parts are protected as national parks and many areas are strict reserves. The spit is home to the highest moving sand dunes in Europe, some 60m/180ft high. A road goes the entire length of the spot, with stops and observation points along the way.
