Kodiak Island: Humpback Whale Insanity
This was absolutely beyond incredible – dozens and dozens of humpback whales feeding on the abundant schools of fish within just feet of the boat! I have never seen or experienced anything like this (except the humpbacks in Wilhelmina Bay in Antarctica). There were spouts and tails and fins and heavy breathing everywhere and nonstop! They swam in groups as well – two, three, four at a time – diving one by one and displaying their distinctive tails. Some surfaced right next to the boat, one breached and jumped completely out (not ready with camera), some attempted bubblenetting the fish. It was a total whale pandemonium everywhere you look and a whale watching experience of a lifetime!
