Kuwait: Grand Mosque of Kuwait

Grand Mosque of Kuwait is the largest mosque in Kuwait and the eighth largest mosque in the world. It took seven years to build and was completed in 1986. On the outside it’s rather simple architecturally – just a giant square building and a single minaret. But it’s the interior that is truly mind blowing (and can we go lucky with a tour). The square hall underneath a single massive dome can house 10,000 worshipers. The lavishness of the interior is impressive – a lot of gold leaf, blue carpets, teak wood windows and doors, massive crystal chandeliers, Andalusian-style mosaics, hand-carved gypsum patterns, and ornamental calligraphy.
