Madagascar: Birds of Madagascar
Madagascar is a paradise of endemic wildlife, and its vibrant birdlife is no exception. From the lush forests of Andasibe to Eastern lowlands, the island offers a kaleidoscope of avian treasures. Madagascar boasts over 280 bird species, with many found nowhere else in the world. During our journey, we spotted Madagascar munia, forest fody, crested drongo, and the enchanting Malagasy paradise flycatcher, along with olive bee-eaters, blue vangas, souimanga sunbirds, and more. Each region offered its own unique encounters, from vibrant coastal birds to secretive forest dwellers. Bird-watching in Madagascar feels like stepping into a David Attenborough documentary. Each sighting is a moment of wonder, a vivid chapter in the story of the island’s unmatched biodiversity (this sentence needs to be read with David Attenborough’s voice please). Whether you’re in the heart of a rainforest or along a secluded coastline, Madagascar’s birds are a testament to its wild, untamed beauty, they’re as much a part of the island’s magic as its iconic lemurs.
