Mexico/Campeche: Xpuhil Ruins

Xpuhil is the nearest town to Calakmul, almost a 100km a way along the road crossing the south of the Yucatan peninsula. Xpuhjil has an archaeological site just on the outskirts of town. The structure are quite scattered around and not all that accessible, with the main one being a three-towered Structure I. All three towers were constructed as false temple – there are no stairs or living quarters inside. Xpujil was populated from around 300 to 1200 AD. No tourists here at all, you will have the entire site to explore to yourself.
