Mexico/Mexico: Tepotzotlan

Tepotzotlan required quite a detour down to the state of Mexico to see the UNESCO listed city and the Pueblo Magico. The Convent San Francisco Javier, built by Jesuit in 1560 to convert the local population to the religion they so desperately needed and couldn’t leave without it, houses one of the most important museum in the country – Museo del Verreinato or Museum of Viceroyalty – containing 8 altars all covered in gold. Sadly, the Museum was closed and all we got was the outside facade of the convent’s main building, still one of the most decorated churches in Spain and the jewel of Mexican Churrigueresque style, notable for the arrangement of figures, niches, and sculptures.
