Micronesia is famous for mangrove crab. These guys are massive up to 5-6 pounds with plenty of juicy meat, almost more then lobster, but totally different taste. Any restaurant will boil it for you – and you don’t need to buy it off the menu – just go to the fish market and buy the biggest freshest mangrove crab. Fish is the overwhelming menu item, mostly tuna. Simple sashimi (although in Chuuk it’s served with lime instead of soy sauce it wasabi) is delicious, as is raw fish marinated in coconut milk. Grilled fish is also fantastic! Local vegetables are taro and breadfruit.
