New Zealand: Te Kuiti

Te Kuiti is a small rural town in the middle of the North Island but its famous as the “Sheep Shearing Capital of the World.” The town is surrounded by picturesque countryside of rolling hills and thousands of sheep everywhere. LTe Kuiti is also known for the annual New Zealand National Shearing Championships, drawing shearers and enthusiasts from around the country and beyond. Te Kuiti means “the valley” in Maori. The town is reminiscent of the Wild West towns in the US – similar buildings along a single street and a railroad nearby.
