Nicaragua: San Juan del Sur – Cristo de La Misericordia

he statue of Cristo de La Misericordia aka Christ of the Mercy is Nicaragua’s version of the world-famous monument in Rio de Janeiro. The location is spectacular – on a high vertical coastal cliff above the Pacific coast and the town of San Juan del Sur, the monument offers superb panoramic views of the beautiful half-moon bay and the beach, as well as the cliffs and bays beyond up and down the coast (known as the Emerald Coast). The centerpiece of the viewing platform is the Christ statue – 15.5m tall, standing on a 9m pedestal, and the total elevation above the ocean below is 134m. And it’s windy like hell up here!
