Norway: Bergen – Exploring the City

Bergen is a stunningly beautiful city in western Norway, surrounded by fjords and mountains and partially spread over multiple islands. It is the second largest city in Norway now, but used to be the capital and the largest city for most of the Norwegian history. The core of the city is the Hanseatic harbor with the UNESCO-listed wharf (next post) and old stone buildings lining up the waterfront. The old town is up from here with several churches and cathedral and more historic buildings and museums. There is also the Bergenhus Fortress protecting the harbor. Dense fog and rain enveloped the town (normal weather for coastal Norway), making the city panorama even more beautiful and haunting!
