Norway: Roldal Stave Church & Roldal Valley

oldal Valley is absolutely a stunning even by Norwegian standards – the town of Roldal lies in a bowl with a glacial lake surrounded by snow covered mountains and glaciers further on top (the spectacular Forgefonna national park begins close behind the valley and the highland Hardangevidda plateau is on the other side). There is also a 13th century stave church – Rondal Stavkirke – right in the middle of the town, built in 1250 and sitting 130 people, still functioning as an active church.
