Reunion: Whale watching

And one more whale-watching trip, this time in Reunion. Several mom-and-baby sightings, nice tail flukes dives, spyhopping, and breaching – so the whole gamut of activities. But unlike in Madagascar and Mayotte, there are 8-12 boats chasing each whale for pictures, swimming with then, diving with them, and just general harassment and disturbance. Like piranhas chasing blood at the first sighting of a poor whale or two. If I were a whale at Reunion – I’d say “screw this” and swim away to another location. It’s a prime example when commercialization of a wildlife experience becomes detrimental for wildlife itself.
