Romania: Transfagarasan Road – South to North
This was beyond incredible – a twisting mountain highway through the Fagarasan Mountains. One of the most spectacular drives in the world, it was my second time driving it – this time in the opposite direction, south to north. As you climb to the crest and go through a tunnel, you arrive at two alpine lakes, mountain huts and spectacular views. Here, you can try local mountain dishes – grilled meats and sausages, goat cheese, and so on, before beginning your descent via a total switchback twister of a highway. Just surreal on every level!
