Saint Helena: Whale Sharks

We got super lucky to spot a whale shark while exploring the amazing wildlife-rich waters around Saint Helena. By the size of it, it was a subadult, since it was relatively small and very inquisitive, swimming up to the boat and just lingering there. Whale sharks (Rhincodon typus) are not really common on Saint Helena and can only be see occasionally, as this part of the Atlantic is very little explores. Whale sharks are the largest fishes on the planet, silent giants that just swim slowly with wide-open mouths, feeding on plankton.
