Slovakia: Bardejov

his small town in northern Slovakia is a UNESCO World Heritage site for its exceptionally well-preserved medieval old town and central square. Bardejov is known as the “most Gothic town in Slovakia.” In fact, the entire town is just a central Radnicne square with a Church of St Aegidius, and rows of old buildings on all four sides. The spectacular church dates back to 1464, and has twelve stunning wood-carved altars, that are considered some of the most elaborate and unique in Europe. The top of the church’s tower offers an absolutely incredible view of the small town laid out beneath. There are also several concentric layers of ancient fortifications around the central square.
