Spain/Murcia: Murcia – Casino Real de Murcia

On an otherwise quiet and narrow street in the old town of Murcia, stands a small ornate entrance to the Casino Real de Murcia. It was developed as an ultra-kitschy social club back in 1847, modeled on Alhambra’s arabic designs with a lot of carved doors and window frames. There is also Roman influence with statues and fountains, and baroque cacophony of paintings and ornate walls. Basically – a total mess! But it was a place to be and smoke a cigar back in the 19th century and show off with money and style (or lack of it).
