St Lucia: St Lucia Distillery

Most Caribbean islands are famous for their run and St Lucia is no exception – St Lucia Distillers is a large distillery making quite a variety of rums that are widely exported, including the popular Chairman’s Reserve and Admiral Rodney lines. The distillery uses locally sourced ingredients, such as molasses from Saint Lucia’s sugarcane fields. Also, the distillery is located in the Roseau Valley and benefits from the island’s fertile volcanic soil and tropical climate, which supposedly contribute to the unique flavors of its rums. Traditional methods are used to make rum – copper pots for distilling and oak bourbon barrels for aging. The best part – it’s all you can taste rum tasting here – several dozen bottles lined up along a large wooden table and you pour yourself – as much as you want and as many times and bottles as you want.
