Tajikistan: Panjakent
The modern town of Panjakent is mostly the base to see the ancient city as well as the launch point for many tours into the southern mountains and lakes in the summer. But don’t miss the local history museum, because it is the only place that holds fragments of the ancient Soghiana Empire aside from the Hermitage. And the city has several peculiar monuments and architectural finds to check out.
