Tanzania: Serenegeti NP – Lions on the Rocks

Lions on the rocks, chilling, not shaken, not stirred – that’s what you get in the southern and central plains of the Serengeti National Park. Lions prefer to occupy the kopje rocks; and checking out all the various rock formations, you are almost quarantined to stumble on a pride of lions relaxing on the rocks or in the vegetation during the day. This was a pride of eleven lions: one big magnificent male lion on the highest rock, a couple females and subadults on the middle rocks lounging in the sun, and five cubs hidden in the bushes. The cubs were not small, but rather medium-sized, perhaps over a year old, and they kept poking out and looking around. The granite kopje rocks offer perfect opportunity for the lions to scan the flat grasslands for miles and miles.
