Ukraine: Poltava

Next – Poltava – the capital of the Poltava Oblast/Region as well as the capital of the worst and totally unmaintained tire-puncturing roads in the country. Other then that – it’s a nice town with several attraction: the White Rotunda monument on a hilltop with panorama of Poltava below, the beautiful Svyto-Uspenskiy Cathedral, the Museum of Local Lore (a very ornamental 1903 building showcasing Ukrainian art), several monuments (including one to Peter the Great), and several centuries old merchant buildings. Not to be missed – is the monument to Poltava Galushki, a dish found only in Poltava region (more in the next post).
