USA/ME: Rockland

One more historic pretty town on the Penobscot Bay – Rockland. Settled in 1769, it rapidly grew due to its safe harbor and shipbuilding industry that dominated here. In the 19th-20th centuries it was a major industrial town with mining, railroad, port, and dozens of industrial factories. Rockland is also the center of lobster catching industry in main – here it’s packed and shipped worldwide. Rockland also holds the annual Lobster Festival in August. With its historic downtown and harbor, Rockland draws hordes of tourists in summer.
