USA/MS: Jackson – Around Downtown
Jackson is the capital of Mississippi and is full of historic landmark buildings, very similar to Washington DC, all centered around and emanating from the Capitol. Besides the New Capitol Building itself, there’s the Old Capitol Building and also the Governor’s Mansion, which is the second longest continuously occupied governor’s residence in the USA. The entire historic downtown Jackson is a grid of open streets, so the iconic buildings are visible from far away. You feel a bit stuck in a time warp with old 1930-50s architecture and not much modern or futuristic designs. There are a lot of museums and memorials, as well as old industrial and commercial buildings.
