USA/NYC: Katz Deli

The world-famous Katz Deli is a kosher-style Jewish delicatessen has been around since 1888 and is a true New York gastro institution and one of the oldest delis in the USA. The two types of sandwiches that made the deli famous are pastrami and corned beef – both with meat piled sky-high! When you enter, you get a paper blue ticket and then use it to order sandwiches (pickles come free), and drinks, and then you pay on the way out – a tradition that’s been the same since existence. New York pastrami sandwich is smoked and very tender beef, seasoned to insanity with pepper, coriander, and other spices and brined for hours, and then layered between two slices of rye bread. Corned beef is another classic – beef brisket brined for long time in salt and sugar until ultra tender and also piled on rye bread – add sauerkraut and Swiss for a Reuben sandwich. The sandwiches are massive!
