USA/Alaska: Grizzly Skinning Salmon at Katmai NP

Despite the common view that bears eat a lot of salmon during the salmon run, they actually only try to eat the heads and skin. They bite off the head first and then skin the dead fish, throwing the meaty carcass away down the river. Head and skin are the fattest parts of the fish, thus allowing bears to gain the maximum amount of calories in a short time of the salmon run. A bear can skin and eat up to a dozen fish an hour.
