USA/CA: Mono Lake

Mono Lake is a saline soda lake at the foot of Sierra Nevada mountain range. It’s the 11th saltiest lake in the world and second saltiest in the USA after the Salt Lake in Utah. And yet it’s full of brine shrimp living in the lake that provide for prolific bird life (not in the middle of January however). The tiny Mono Lake brine shrimp are endemic and found nowhere else on earth. The lake is also famous for spectacular tufa formations near the southern coast.
