Venezuela: Mt Roraima – Foothills of Mt Roraima

Once you leave the grassy savanna of Grand Sabana, you start gradually climbing about 2000 feet up the foothills of Mt Roraima. The flattop mountain constantly towers in front of you, while Mt Kukenan (an equally majestic tepui mountain) rises on your left with a massive 600ft waterfall on its side. The hiking is spectacular, just need to be aware of plenty of super poisonous snakes – in fact, this was the warning we got before the start of the trek – “it’s an hour from a snake bite to death, and you are 2 days away from any help, so be careful”.
