Vietnam: Phong Nha NP – Glowworms at Nuoc Nut Cave

Nuoc Nut Cave is newly discovered only in 2009, so while the British Caving association has been mapping out the passageways in the park, I couldn’t find any info on the wildlife in the cave anywhere online. There are several small skylights in the Nuoc Nut cave where very dim light can penetrate the absolute darkness and life exists here. Bats are common (although not photographable), as are giant cave spiders and equally giant cave crickets. More interestingly, I got to see a totally blind white fish in the cave stream (a rarity, since even guides haven’t seen them before). And finally, one hall in the cave had what looked like glowworms from New Zealand. They look identical, casting slimy glistening strings from the cave ceiling, but they weren’t glowing. The worm colonies were extensive and beautiful in helmet light. Anybody know what these are?
