Austria: Tirol – Skiing Kitzbuhel

Kitzbuhel Alps is the first range of Alps rising sharply as you descend south from Salzburg. The mountains are not as tall as Swiss or French Alps but nevertheless are world renown for long runs from about 6k feet down to 1.5k feet. Kitzbuhler Horn is a single highest mountain rising steeply to 6548 ft, 1996 meters. It’s a world famous resort in the town of Kitzbuhel but the slopes are actually longer and better from the St Johan in Tirol side (the peak views are more spectacular here as well). I did three full days of skiing here. On the second night, nearly two feet of snow (50cm) fell in a complete whiteout of fresh powder! The sun was out the third day to a paradise of snowy wonderland! This is skiing at its ultimate best – great slopes, great snow, great beer, great food, great EUR/USD exchange rate).
