Ukraine: Kremenets

One more beautiful historic little town in central Ukraine – Kremenets. Kremenets dates back all the way to the 8th century and Kievan Rus and is one of the oldest towns in Ukraine. Throughout its history, it was an important town on the east-west and north-south trading routes and thus boasts a lot of historical architectural monuments. On a prominent hill above the town stand ruins of the Kremenets Castle from the 12th century. There is also Cathedral of St. Nicholas (a former Franciscan abbey from 16th century), the massive Holy Epiphany Convent from 17th century, a huge and grand Jesuit Collegium from 1771, and several old historic buildings and squares.
