El Salvador: Suchitoto

The small colonial town of Suchitoto is often considered one of the most picturesque and beautiful in El Salvador. Located deep inland and surrounded by tropical rainforest and facing a huge lake, the town is famous for its magnificent church built in the mid 18th century, located in a large central square surrounded by cobblestone streets and antique-looking restaurants and cafes. The church is beautifully illuminated in the evening, especially during the evening mass. The town is famous for its artisans and is often referred to as the “cultural capital of El Salvador”.
